The Gerstein Centre is one step closer to opening 14 new “crisis care” beds for men and women at 1045 Bloor Street West. On December 5th, the Committee of Adjustment approved their request for a minor variance. (The Gerstein Centre is planned 230 metres from another Crisis Care Facility or Residential Care Facility; the City of Toronto By-laws require a 245 metre separation.)
The Gerstein Centre obtained letters of support from neighbours, local residents’ associations, the police, the local councillor Adam Giambrone and Councillor Kyle Rae in whose ward the current Gerstein Centre is located. Opposing the application at the Committee of Adjustment hearing were two representatives of the local Business Improvement Association with a petition signed by 200 people.
